1. Tell me about a time when you suffered from an injury or were in pain.
Last year, when I was playing basketball with my friends, meanwhile, when I jumped and came down, I accidently stepped on the other people’s foot. Suddenly, I heard a crisp crackling sound from my ankle. It made me too pain to remain standing. With my friends’ help, I went sitting beside and checking my ankle carefully. It really shocked me that my ankle had swollen largely and badly. It seemed something had protruded out of my ankle.
After that, I went back home alone, since I had suffered a lot of sprain accidents, I thought I could go home alone reluctantly. For my surprise, I even could not sustain for 100metres, the nerves connect the brain and the foot seemed had been severed and I could not control the movement of my foot normally. So I called a taxi to take me home.
When I came back home, at first, my guardian was also shocked by my serious sprained ankle, which was swollen just like a ball. Then she suggested me that had best not bathing with hot water, which would compound my injury. So I followed her instruction and flushed my “swollen ball” with cold water, which could recover the blood circulation around the wounded part. Then, I massaged the wounded part by slightly rubbing with my thumbs. It made me feel better and really relieved a bit my pain. My guardian took out a small packet of ice from the refrigerator and helped me apply it on my ankle. My ankle was cooled down immediately and I temporarily lost the consciousness of my ankle, including the pain.
Next few days, I continually applied the ice packet on my ankle and massage it to prompt the blood circulation. After a few days, the swollen part started shrinking and I was able to toddle about. The remedy lasted for nearly 1 month until I could move without any pain in my ankle.
2. The use of alternative medicine is becoming very widespread. Why might this be so?
In ancient time, diseases and injury were the most catastrophic trouble for the people since the medical treatment was inferior then. Consequently, people started to search and investigate about the remedy of the diseases and injury. Nowadays, people still move on the investigation of different ways to cure patients, a lot of alternative treatments are coming out from this. In this case, like the reflexology referred in the Part 1, it is an alternative treatment which was found among the civilians. Mr Min had suffered with pains in his legs for a long time and the conventional treatments were useless in this case. Nevertheless, after he accepted the reflexology, his pain was exactly turning better. Alternative treatments are usually efficacious in some ways and can treat the patients in different situations. Indeed, more alternative treatments mean a higher possibilities to relieve the pain.
However, a lot of people are concerned about the efficacy of the alternative treatment. There are a lot of uncertainties in the alternative treatments. A disease can be treated in a right treatment, while it can be escalated if apply a wrong remedy. A wrong treatment may cause more troubles to the patients or even put them death. So, people are worried about those alternative treatments which are not coming out from the specialists but the civilians, which have a low authority and acknowledgement.
